Although Barbera is an old Italian variety, we believe it is a look into the future of winemaking here in the Barossa Valley. This varietal has the unique ability to transcend heat waves and still make beautifully acid-fresh, medium bodied wine. Deep coloured, tangy with inviting cherry aromas, it pairs effortlessly with all sorts of richer foods. Barbera is widely planted across Italy, this prevalence is a testament to its harmony with a wide range of dishes. Surprisingly, it is still a unique and rare variety here in Australia. The warmer vinicultural scene, brought on by a changing climate and the appetite for lower alcohol styles, will cement this varietal's place on many dinner tables.

Colour: Deep Cherry

Nose: Raspberry, strawberry, cherry and cola

Palate: Medium bodied with bright cherry and tangy rhubarb. Acid and tannin are soft and works very well with food.

12% alcohol

REVIEWS

Jeez, these Bosward wines present some serious value for money across the range. Here, it's a flavour-packed Barbera full of juicy plum and blueberry along with raspberry and wild strawberry top notes. Mid-weighted, pure and crunchy with plenty of spice, sarsaparilla, pressed flowers and earthen tones. It's a real easy-drinking style, light on tannin and a tangy, vivid disposition. It's a wee beauty.

Vibrant purple and ruby tones shining through the glass. Blueberry and dried rosemary aromatics. Plump blue fruits at the core, hints of warm bitumen and dried herbs adding character to the line and flow of this wine. Medium in weight with acidity working well to lift it early and ensure good length to the finish where subtle tannins kick in. Drink: 2024–2031
